Meissen is a city in the German state of Saxony, situated on the river Elbe, northwest of Dresden. It is the center of the county district of Meissen, which is a district of Dresden. In the Middle Ages, it was the metropolis of the Meissen Margrave. The city is famous for its world-famous Meissen porcelain.
